Below is a sample of writing from my summer with the Carolinas Golf Association.

Hyo Joon Jang of Bluffton, S.C. shattered records all week long at the 64th Carolinas Junior Girls’ Championship. In route to her 13-stroke victory, the largest in championship history, Jang shot rounds of 66 twice, setting and tying the Country Club of Asheville’s course record for women. With her second 66, she also secured the lowest total score in championship history, finishing at 11-under-par, 202 total. Continue reading

The final round of the 106th Carolinas Amateur Championship saw 13 ties or lead changes, but when all was said and done, Lansdon Robbins of Davidson, N.C. came out on top. The UNC-Wilmington Seahawk shot a bogey-free 67 on Sunday at Cape Fear Country Club to finish the tournament at 17-under-par, 271 total. Continue reading

Jensen Castle of West Columbia, S.C. and Rachel Kuehn of Asheville, N.C. dominated during their time at the 43rd Carolinas Women’s Four-Ball Championship. The duo teamed up to break the championship’s all-time scoring record with a 16-under-par, 128 total performance at Catawba Country Club. Continue reading

Todd White of Roebuck, S.C. won his fourth career South Carolina Amateur Match Play Championship on Sunday at Orangeburg Country Club, taking home the title with a 6&5 victory over Logan Sowell of Kershaw, S.C. White, who has now won the championship in four different decades (1991, 2004, 2010 and 2020), finished his round at a bogey-free 7-under-par through 13 holes. Continue reading

Tim Bunten of Concord, N.C. pulled away from the field at the Carolinian Amateur to win the championship with a final round 5-under-par, 67 and 9-under-par, 207 total. Bunten, a rising senior on the East Carolina University men’s golf team, made five birdies and an eagle to help him secure the victory, and in his final 27 holes at Keith Hills Golf Club, he managed a total nine birdies.
